PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective display device, capable of obtaining high frontal luminance both in a reflective display when using external light and in a transmissive display and using illumination light from a backlight. SOLUTION: A plurality of long and narrow prism parts 15, 16 are tightly aligned and formed, in parallel with each other respectively on the front face and the rear face of a light transmitting plate 14 of the backlight 13, located on the rear side of a liquid crystal display element 1. Reflected light and illuminating light are emitted, being condensed in two directions which are made nearly perpendicular and intersecting with each other, by making the longitudinal directions of the front and rear prism parts 15, 16 intersect nearly perpendicular with each other. |
