The intrusion detection method has a video camera surveillance for a video scene and detecting a camera offset or obstruction. The image is transformed (256) in image blocks and spatial activity determined for each block. The current and previous image are calculated providing a comparison base and using a weighting of the evolving luminosity with time, to provide a signal output which is compared to a set detection level.
