PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely obtain an objective document as a similar document even if the same word as a retrieval key document is not used. SOLUTION: A range (an item and paragraph) to use as the retrieval key in the document is specified (steps A10, A11). After reading the retrieval key document, a word is segmented from the specified range in the retrieval key document (step A13) to generate a subordinate concept word of the word (steps A14...A19). By aiming at a plurality of documents registered in a database, the document including subordinate concept word is retrieved (steps A20...A25), and the document is outputted as retrieval results by this retrieval (steps A26, A27). In this manner, by adding the subordinate concept word to a word to be used as the retrieval key and retrieving, the document contained in the document can be obtained precisely as a similar document.
