A device for the exploitation of waste heat has an exhaust guide attached to a heat source. The exhaust guide has a bypass channel with a branch connection leading to a heat exchanger plus a return connection located behind the branch connection in the flow direction for the return of the exhaust that has flowed through the heat exchanger. The exhaust guide (3) is designed between the branch connection (4) and the return connection (5) as continuously open and obstacle-free. In the flow path of the branching-off exhaust stream, a feed device is present. In the flow path of the branching-off exhaust stream, especially near the branch connection, a safety shut-off flap is present for closing off the bypass channel.
