The drill and loader form a demountable part of a drill and load unit hauled along the face conveyor (18) at right angles to the direction of advance (21) to and from the face (20) running parallel to advance (21). Loader and drill can again be mounted on separate machines. The loader includes a side-sling shovel with the drill in this case demountably fitted to the loader. An additional carriage drill runs height-adjustably above the conveyor (18) and the support (11) has a pivotal protective blast shield (31) on the roofbars (17). A vertically adjustable blast guard (33) runs along the conveyor on the waste side. One shield support unit (13) has a mounting for the drill and/or loader, possibly several mountings spread along the front on the supports. Drill and loader can have their own self-propelled crawler carriage and the loader is equipped with shovel and activated picks.
