PURPOSE: Complexes formed from a molecular encapsulation agent such as cyclodextrin, and cyclopropene and its derivatives such as methylcyclopropene are provided which can inhibit the ethylene response in plants and extend the shelf-life of a plant, flower, fruit and leaf. CONSTITUTION: These cyclopropene compositions comprise: cyclopropene of the formula 1; a molecular encapsulation agent encapsulated with the cyclopropene in its inside; and optionally one or more additives, wherein the additives are lubricants, releasing agents or a mixture thereof and made by pressure-agglomerating with a tablet press. In formula, R is H or substituted or nonsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, phenyl or naphtyl.
