PURPOSE: A method for controlling an output of a plotter is provided to divide overall output area including data to be outputted and output data for decreasing a movement in the front and rear directions of a paper being passed through a plotter, and prevent a paper from being turned aside and broken. CONSTITUTION: A user operates an output controlling program stored in a memory of a host computer and loads the program in a main memory(S100). The user inputs the overall output area of a printed matter and a width and a length of each printing area to be outputted by stages using an input device connected with the host computer(S110). A central calculation device is operated by an output control program, and calculates the number of output areas, data capable of characterizing each area, the width, and the length of each printing area(S120). The central calculation device extracts data in the first output area(S130). The central calculation device transmits the extracted data to a central calculation device of a plotter through an interface(S140). The central calculation device of a plotter controls and drives a driving device including a roller driving device and a head driving device mounted in the plotter(S150,S160). The driving device outputs data in the first outputting area in a printing paper, and the central calculation device of a plotter transmits result data to the central calculation device of the host computer(S170). The central calculation device of the host computer judges whether data which have not been outputted are existed by comparing output result data with overall output data(S180).
