The apparatus includes both logic elements (such as analog to digital converters (152) and computational processing circuits (154)) and interface circuits (such as optical output devices (162 and 164)) that are all uniquely implemented in a unitary structure that is borne upon a single silicon substrate, notwithstanding that at least some of the devices are formed of monocrystalline silicon material and at least one other of these devices is formed of a monocrystalline compound semiconductor material such as gallium arsenide. |
