The protective garment (1) is provided by a poncho, a jacket, or a coat, worn on the upper body, having a pocket containing a signal flag which is attached to the pocket at one end, e.g. a horizontal pocket extending across the shoulders. The signal flag is folded or rolled for fitting it into the pocket and has a fixing at its free end for attaching it to the garment via a corresponding fixing provided by the latter in its extended position.
