The writing device has a pump (2) for supplying the writing fluid from a writing fluid container (6) to a writing head (12), with a line (4) between the pump and the writing fluid container for supplying the pump pressure to the latter and a second line (10) extending between the writing fluid container and the writing head. A monitoring device (22,24) compares the pressure in the second line with a given pressure value, for detecting a pressure loss indicating a leak, with subsequent venting of the writing fluid container.
