HEAT EXCHANGER SEAL APPARATUS

A heat exchanger (2) includes a heat exchanger shell (4) having an inlet (19) and outlet (19). A header plate (6) including an inner member (10) and an outer member (8) defining a leak detection chamber (11) therebetween is provided at each end of the heat exchanger shell (4). A plurality of heat exchanger tubes (14) is positioned in the heat exchanger shell (4). Each tube (14) extends through an aperture (15) formed in an inner member (10) and an aperture (12) formed in an outer member (8) of each of the header plates (6). A seal (20) is provided in a channel in each aperture (15) to sealingly engage a corresponding heat exchanger tube (14) and a corresponding plate (8, 10). A passage (13) leads from the leak detection chamber (11) to the exterior of the header plate (6).
