Method has a cylindrical device inserted in the launch tube (1) until it abuts the annular end face of the seal (5), with a drive acting between the cylindrical device and the device which supports it relative to the launch tube, for pressing the seal into the gap between the missile and the launch tube. Cylindrical device is provided with a measuring and display device (7) for indicating the deformation of the seal caused by its compression. An Independent claim for a device for fitting a seal between a missile and a launch tube is also included.
