The audio system for a car has: (i) an audio-processing unit to which at least one audio signal is passed; (ii) at least two loudspeakers located in the vehicle, spaced apart and connected to the audio-processing unit for the playback of the audio signal(s); and (iii) at least one seat occupation sensor located in the vehicle, connected to the audio-processing unit, at least one of the loudspeakers being controlled according to a sensor signal of the seat occupation sensor(s). The seat occupation sensor(s) detect(s) the occupation of a co-driver's seat of the vehicle. The seat occupation sensor(s) detect(s) the occupation of a driver's seat of the vehicle.
