The invention relates to a method and to a device for measuring the non-linear coefficient gamma and/or the dispersion coefficient beta 2 of an optical fiber (8) of an optical data transmission path. The non-linear coefficient gamma and/or the dispersion coefficient beta 2 is/are deduced from the modification of the backscattered power of at least one new signal (1, 2, 5, 6) generated by four-wave mixing of two pump signals (3, 4) by measuring at only one end of the optical fiber.
