PURPOSE: A hydrogenation catalyst on a carbon black support is provided which has a higher dispersion of the noble metal and is more active and selective than the known catalysts. CONSTITUTION: The hydrogenation catalyst contain, as the carbon support, a carbon black with a H content of not less than 4000 ppm and, as the catalytically active component, palladium and/or platinum or bi- or multi-metallically doped or alloyed palladium and/or platinum is prepared by addition of metal salt solutions to a suspension of the carbon black with a H content of not less than 4000 ppm, hydrolyzing the metal salt solutions by using a basic compound and carrying out complete deposition of the metal by reduction with a reducing agent. The hydrogenation catalyst can be employed for the hydrogenation of nitro aromatics. |
