Method and apparatus to process and package flavoured food items

A method for processing and packaging food items comprising dividing a supply of said food items into measured batches, applying a predetermined dose of particulate flavouring composite to said batch and packaging said flavoured batches into discrete packages. The flavouring composition is dispensed in the predetermined doses by a screw feeder on a vertical axis. Means to control the size of the dose are also claimed and the flavouring composition may be applied by a carrier gas. Apparatus for effecting the method is also claimed. Also claimed is a method of binding together particles of the flavouring composition to form larger particles preferably by blowing gas through a bed of particles in the presence of a liquid.
