PURPOSE: Low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose being added as a binder and disintegrator in the formation of tablets is provided which can be effectively used as a base material for dry direct tableting having high binding power and good flowability. CONSTITUTION: Low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose is impregnated with 30 to 100% by weight of sugar or sugar alcohol and dried, based on the low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose, to give a base material for dry direct tableting, wherein the low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose has a degree of compression of 35% or more and a fluidity index of 60 or more. The sugar or sugar alcohol is one or more selected from erythritol, mannitol and sorbitol.
