PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which a user interface is improved by letting users know a state of the printer by sound. SOLUTION: There are set a printer diagnosis part 300 for monitoring a state of a printer mechanism part 210 and a head cartridge 120, and outputting a status information SI, an object detection part 180 set to a casing 101 for detecting an object approaching the periphery of the casing 101, a sound generation part 170 for outputting the state of the printer mechanism part 210 and the head cartridge 120 by sound, and a control part 150 for grasping the state of the printer mechanism part 210 and the head cartridge 120 on the basis of the status information SI, and making the sound generation part 170 output the state of the printer mechanism part 210 and the head cartridge 120 when the object is detected by the object detection part 180.
