PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for a polyester resin, capable of producing a solid-phase polycondensed resin excellent in color tone, giving only a small amount of by-products, without adhesion and excessive crystallization, etc., and with good productivity. SOLUTION: The polyester resin is produced by esterifying a dicarboxylic acid component having terephthalic acid as a main component and a diol component having ethylene glycol as a main component, and thereafter melt- polycondensing in the presence of a polycondensing catalyst, and then solid-phase polycondensing. The melt-polycondensed resin, wherein the specific viscosity is 0.1-0.7 dl/g, and the activation energyΔE and the frequency factor A satisfy lnA/ΔE>=0.80 [mol/(kcal.h)] in carrying out the solid-phase polycondensing reaction, is solid-phase polycondensed to form the solid-phase polycondensed resin having the specific viscosity of 0.5-1.5 dl/g.
