PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and highly rigid telescopic steering device with a steering column and a steering shaft each split into two. SOLUTION: A pair of extending side plates 20, 21 integrally extending to the opening edge of a lower jacket 4 are held and fixed between each of corresponding side plates 14, 15 of a fixed bracket 13 and each of corresponding side plates 10, 11 of a tilt bracket 9 to achieve telescopic locking. A retainer 32 is laid between an upper jacket 3 and the lower jacket 4 for guiding mutual sliding movement, thus providing a substantial fitting length between a portion and the retainer 32 where the extending side plates 20, 21 are held. |
