PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stacker crane type automatic storage and retrieval system with excellent storage efficiency in space. SOLUTION: In the stacker crane type automatic storage and retrieval system provided with a storage rack having many shelves in front and rear directions and the vertical direction, a shelf is constituted of a pair of receiving parts 3 facing each other between supports 2 each other of the storage rack, and the receiving parts 3 are mounted on the supports 2 by a rotary shaft 4 and are held in a horizontal state by a stopper 5 projected from the supports 2. Since the receiving parts 3 successively escape in an upper direction when raising articles to be stored and the articles raised up to a target height can be mounted on the receiving parts 3 at the position, the articles to be stored can be stored at pitch according to the heights of the articles even in case of plural kinds of the heights of the articles and thereby storage with excellent efficiency in space is made possible.
