A rotatable sample carrier holder (12) is adjustable so that an image recording device (1) can assume different positions along a radius of an axis. This enables imaging of the whole sample by recording images in circles with different radii. A positioning mechanism (2) positions a microscope slide in relation to the image recording device. The positioning mechanism and the recording device are controlled from a control unit (3). The image recording device includes a microscope (4).
