<p>PURPOSE: To surely avoid the excessive enlargement of the loop of a sheet member between a register roller pair and a feed roller pair by driving the register roller pair and then, after predetermined delay time elapses, driving the feed roller pair at the time of the secondary conveyance of the sheet member. CONSTITUTION: When primary conveyance is started, a sheet member 20 is introduced into a conveyance path 44 between respective guide plates 32, 34, and at first, when the tip of the sheet member 20 is detected by a detection means 46, a clutch means 16 is energized to rotate a feed roller pair 4. Next, when the tip of the sheet member 20 is made to abut on the nip of a register roller pair 6 in the state of being not driven, a loop 62 is produced in the sheet member 20 between the feed roller pair 4 and the register roller pair 6. On the other hand, in a secondary conveyance, at first, the register roller pair 6 is rotated and next, after predetermined delay time elapses, the feed roller pair 4 is rotated.
