PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short travel detector for an empty/load vehicle sensor valve device for rolling stock having a sensor arm with no sufficient movement. SOLUTION: The short travel detector comprises the empty/load vehicle sensor valve device 10, the sensor arm 6 connected to a sensor cable 12 whose movement is controlled by an upper spring member, and a terminal member arranged at the end of the sensor cable in contact with the upper spring member. The terminal member is moved downward with the downward movement of the upper spring member to prevent the movement of the sensor cable. In the state that a pressure is applied to a brake, a sensor valve piston 2 rotates the sensor arm against the resistance of a spring. In an empty condition, the sensor cable is moved backward and a sensor valve spool is communicated therewith, whereby a pressure fluid is supplied to a balance piston for a load proportional valve 50 for specifying a proportional operation mode. In a load condition, the movement of the sensor cable is prevented and so a non- proportional operation mode can be specified without the supply of the pressure fluid to the balance piston.
