PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform printing on the label face of a recording medium fixed to a tray for carrying the recording medium efficiently with high print quality while suppressing noise. SOLUTION: The tray 1 for carrying a recording medium comprises a rectangular planar tray body 11, and a section 12 to be detected wherein a recording medium 2 is fixed to a fixing section 21 and a hole 13 for removing the recording medium is made in a circular groove 22. End part 14 of the tray body 11 serving as the starting point of carriage and end part 16 of the tray body 11 serving as the ending point of carriage are shaped such that the thickness of the tray body 11 decreases continuously toward both end parts. A plurality of elongated grooves 18 are made in parallel with the sub-scanning direction to have a plurality of convex regions H and a plurality of concave regions L wherein the rear side region of the convex region H on one side serves as a concave region L and the rear side region of the concave region H on one side serves as a convex region.
