PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device having superior mounting property and stable shock absorbing performance. SOLUTION: A shock absorbing member 15 is arranged to envelop an inner tube 1a and mounted on a steering column 1 with its end 15d caulked to an opening 1c as a notch formed in the steering column 1. Therefore, the shock absorbing member 15 is restricted from rotation and movement relative to the steering column 1. A flange 16 as a restricting member mounted on the steering column 1 has contact with the shock absorbing member 15 at its almost all periphery (or in a longer range than the peripheral length of a protrusion 1d) to restrict the movement of the shock absorbing member 15 relative to the steering column 1. During shock loading in the collision of a vehicle, the flange 16 restricts the movement of the shock absorbing member 15 in a low bearing condition and avoids the cracking of the shock absorbing member 15, leading to proper shock absorbing performance. |
