PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably cut a brittle material working object in a ductile mode without especially changing a working atmosphere by avoiding intermittent collision by vibration of a tool flank and the working object. SOLUTION: The dimensionless number fA/v provided by small oscillation frequency (f), small oscillation amplitude A and cutting speed (v) of a cutting tool at the time of slitting is set less than a critical condition (β+θ)/360 provided by a tool clearance angleβand a plunge-cut angleθ.
