PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous gel composition for which carrageenan is used, capable of being furnished with clarity, even though the carrageenan to be used is not so highly purified as compared with ordinary carrageenans. SOLUTION: This aqueous gel composition is compounded from 0.1-6.0 wt.% of the carrageenan, 3-15 wt.% of an auxiliary clarifier which exists in a liquid state at ordinary temperature (a room temperature of 20-25 deg.C) and is slightly soluble in water, 0.05-1.0 wt.% of a gel reinforcer selected from a monovalent, divalent metallic salt, and saccharides, 1-20 wt.% of a solubilizer, and water.
