PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane cartridge with a safety valve which can be easily moved and installed in or out of a tank and to provide a throw-in type immersion membrane separator. SOLUTION: A membrane cartridge 6 has filtration membranes 16 disposed on both surfaces of a filter plate 15 and has a channel 17 for a permeated liquid formed between the filter plate 15 and filter membrane 16 and in the filter plate 15, and has a discharge port 18 for the permeated liquid communicating with the channel 17 for the permeated liquid, and the cartridge is disposed as immersed in a tank. In the cartridge 6, a pressure release channel 19 communicating with the passage 17 is formed in the upper end side or lower end side of the filter plate 15, and the top aperture of the pressure release channel 19 is provided with a safety valve 20 which opens at a specified pressure.
