PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a strain capable of significantly producing two kinds ofε-poly-L-lysines respectively having a low-polymerization degree of 10-mer to 20 plus several-mer and a low/medium-polymerization degree of 20 plus several- mer to 30 plus several-mer, and to provide a method for producing the low/ medium polymerization degreeε-poly-L-lysine in high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing low/medium polymerization degreeε-poly-L-lysines comprises obtaining Streptomyces albulis subsp. SP-25 strain (FERM P-17998) and a variant thereof, culturing these strains in a liquid medium and then collecting the objective low/medium-molecular weightε-poly-L-lysines produced and accumulated in the resulting culture solution.
