PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition for coating materials and a curable coating material composition both having an excellent basic performance that a cured coating film has high gloss, high weathering resistance, or the like, further high hardness and excellent flexibility, in addition to these performances, furthermore, by making these compositions high solid, being possible to satisfy request for saving resources and protection of the environment, and to obtain the curable coating material composition having high reactivity during a cure process and a good appearance of a foamed coating film, and besides being possible to sufficiently retain the pot life of the coating material. SOLUTION: The resin composition comprises a polyol (A1) or another polyol (A2), a polyether polyol (B), and a solvent (C), and the polyol (A1) comprises a polymerizable unsaturated monomer having hydroxyl group and another polymerizable unsaturated monomer having a ring structure as essential components, and the polyol (A2) comprises the polymerizable unsaturated monomer having hydroxyl group and another polymerizable unsaturated monomer having a specific straight-chain branched structure as essential components.
