PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material separating device enabling better working efficiency, a low-cost structure and space saving. SOLUTION: This material separating device 10 is provided with a carrier flat conveyor 11 for carrying a shaft-like material 1A or a plate-like material and a separating mechanism 12 for separating the materials one by one on the conveyor 11. The separating mechanism 12 blocks passing of the materials and is constituted of first and second passing blocking means 40 and 50 capable of releasing the blocking operation. In a state of the first passing blocking means 40 arranged in the upstream of the conveyor 11 of the second passing blocking means 50 and passing of the materials blocked by the second passing blocking means 50, the first passing blocking means 40 blocks passing of the second shaft-like material 1A or the plate-like material by making the material blocked in passing as the head.
