摘要 Wood quality is assessed from a single graphic image compiled from ring measurement data which classifies the wood fibres according to age and coarseness. A method for analysing wood quality based on wood fibre properties in order to plan and optimise plantation growing conditions and transport and factory operations, uses data obtained from the rings in the wood that indicate the age of the tree. The method involves the following steps : (i) the wood is divided into regions which contain fibres with different levels of maturity, creating at least two classes of fibres ; (ii) wood fibres with the same level of maturity are divided into fibres of different coarseness, creating at least two classes of fibres again ; (iii) the two different classes are combined to enable the wood to be characterised by its proportion of different fibre types, each of which is defined by its maturity and coarseness ; and (iv) the wood is classified, planned or sorted according to the proportion of the respective fibre classes present. Independent claims are also included for (a) the analysis device used, containing a measuring device (80), a computer (88) connected by leads (84, 86) to the measuring device for dividing the wood into mature, young and intermediate classes and dividing these classes into different fibre coarseness fractions representing spring, summer or intermediate season classes, a graphic interface for creating a single graphic representative display (40) of the results on a screen (89), clearly showing the relationship between fibre content and age, from which wood quality can be determined, and (b) the use of a single graphic image to determine wood quality from the properties of the wood fibres, which are classified as young spring, young summer, mature spring and mature summer wood fibres, defining the fibre age and coarseness, and can be used to form a single image clearly showing the relationship between fibre age and coarseness, from which wood quality can be determined.
