The invention relates to a process for preparing a fluorescent magnetic powder meant for non-destructive material testing for pointing out surface faults and/or faults detected in the close vicinity of pharmaceutical materials. According to the invention, the process consists in using a ferromagnetic carrier based on zinc-doped red iron oxide, prepared by synthesis of iron sulphate and zinc nitrate in an acid medium, at zinc concentrations of 1...8%, or a ferromagnetic carrier based on cobalt-doped red iron oxide, at cobalt concentrations of 1...6%, prepared by synthesis of iron sulphate and cobalt sulphate in a base medium, coated by a synthesis and co-precipitation process with a fluorescent substance deposited directly on the ferromagnetic carrier, the resulting fluorescent magnetic powder having needle-shaped particles in a ratio of 10...75%, the particle size being of 0.5...8 (miu)m.
