The invention relates to a machine and a process for the optimization of the joint shape in the longitudinal welding of the metal rings in which the semiproduct (3) previously bevelled and rolled is passed through a device (4) which rotates said semiproduct until positioning the joint at its upper part, then through a shaping stand (1) where the joint is guided by a roller beam (6) and cleaned by some pneumatically driven brushes (17), twelve roller lines (18) for adjusting the joint closure acting simultaneously on the exterior surface of the semiproduct (3), the edges of said semiproduct (3) being maintained at the same level during welding with a welding head (26), by pressing them with the lower rollers (13) and the upper rollers (14) of the roller beam (6) and with a roller (25) for smoothing the joint.
