PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for automatically generating pin number information based on the set information of the pin shape of a component. SOLUTION: This method comprises a step 201 for inputting the pin shape pattern condition of a component when newly generating the circuit diagram symbol of the component, a step 202 for automatically generating the pins of the component from the pin shape pattern condition, and a step 203 for displaying pin shape display information at a display device. In the pin shape display step 203, the pin shape is displayed so as to be freely edited in a state that the pins of the component are arranged in grids sectioned like grids in a pin arrangement area, and this pin shape display step 203 includes a step 204 for setting pin number vertical element names and pin number horizontal element names for the pin shape display. Also, this method comprises a step 206 for generating pin numbers based on the connection rule of the prescribed pin numbers based on the pin number vertical elements and the pin number horizontal elements corresponding to the pin arrangement of the component for the respective pins of the components, generating the pin number data and outputting the data to a storage device.
