A system control unit (60) has a switching block (61) and a control logic (62) which receives transfer requests from components, e.g. CPU (10), memory (30), and peripheral devices (50), and establishes the setting of the switching block in order to set up a channel (CH) for reciprocal data exchange, and adjusts the arrangement of the channel according to data flow. The system control unit is connected to the components over independently operated channels for transferring data signal and address signals.
