PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery maintaining a high cycle characteristic without damaging moldability and bulk density as the positive electrode, and capable of assembling a secondary battery improving an initial capacity and a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: A lithium manganese composite oxide represented by Li1+xMn2-x-yGayO4 (0<=x<=0.10, 0<y<=0.18), in which one part of manganese is substituted with one or both of lithium and gallium, is used for the positive active material. Gallium compound is added to a manganese compound forming secondary particles in spherical or ellipsoidal shape relatively thickly filled by coaggulated fine primary particles, and having powder characteristics, so as not to destroy the shape of the manganese compound. The manganese compound is mixed with lithium compound, and subjected to heat treatment, thereby obtaining lithium manganese composite oxide. |
