PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a master station/slave station system adopting the multi- drop system where a master station discriminates a slave station number causing an information change among slave stations at a high-speed. SOLUTION: The master station 1 is provided with a slave station wait timer 14 that monitors a reply wait from slave stations, and each of the slave stations 2-n is provided with a break transmission wait timer 22 that measures a time until a break signal is transmitted. The slave station number decides the setting time of the break transmission wait timer 22. When the master station 1 reaches a state able to accept an interruption, the master station 1 transmits an interruption enable signal generated by an interruption enable signal generating section 11 to all the slave stations 2-n. When a command analysis section 21 of each slave station identifies the interruption enable signal, a slave station whose state is changed transmits the break signal to the master station when the break transmission wait timer 22 expires. A slave station discrimination section 15 of the master station identifies the slave station number on the basis of the setting of the slave station wait timer 14 when receiving the break signal.
