SUBMERGED ULTRASOUND CONTROL INSTALLATION

The invention relates to a submerged ultrasound control installation meant especially for controlling the quality of inoxidable steel coatings, covering the hollow plates of the heat exchangers in the construction of the CANDU-type nuclear power plants. The installation comprises a mobile girder (6) displaceable along some guide rails (2 and 3). A control head (13) driven by a rope gearing (14) moves in forward motion under the mobile girder (6). The control head (13) supports a sensor holder rod (20) which is vertically displaceable and which, at the lower part, is provided with an ultrasound transducer (17) around which some proximity magnetic sensors (22) are mounted to sense the stroke ends of the control head (13). The driving motors for the motion along the three axes and also the ultrasound transducer (17) and the magnetic sensors (22) are connected to the process computer (25) together with a fault detector (24), the programs stored in the process computer memory (25) ensuring the determination of the coordinates, the shape and size of the faults tracked down and their location on the surface of the piece to be controlled.
