PURPOSE: An image processing system is provided to enhance picture quality by the image processing of at least either one of a server and a terminal and to improve processing efficiency by the execution of image processing through a device having higher image processing capacity. CONSTITUTION: To enhance the picture quality of displayed images, input image data are subjected to a tone correction process and a halftoning process according to display characteristics of a terminal. Image processing packages are provided in both a server and the terminal. The image processing packages are selectively used according to processing capacities. The server determines execution or non-execution of the image processing according to the type of the terminal. When any image processing is carried out in the server, a control signal representing execution of the image processing is mapped to the processed image data and transmitted to the terminal. The terminal determines requirement of further image processing in response to the control signal and carries out a required series of non-executed image processing.
