PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a delicate service depending on the purpose and the arrangement of apparatus of individual users in a system for managing/ controlling a plurality of apparatus. SOLUTION: An apparatus controller 2 recognizes the type of each apparatus 7 connected with a local network 6 by examining the static information on an attribute table provided for each apparatus 7. A type of apparatus 7 determined by a previously registered control purpose is set as an apparatus to be controlled and operational conditions in the attribute table of the relevant apparatus 7 are determined and updated to perform operation conforming to the control purpose while taking account of external information obtained from an agent distribution center 3. The apparatus 7 operates according to the operational conditions in the attribute table.
