PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screen display method and a character string file for screen display, by which work in preparing/editing the character string file for screen display can be easily performed and a computer program can be made correspondent to plural languages. SOLUTION: In a program system, which has a processing program 4 for screen display and a character string file 1 defining a display character string to be displayed on a screen 5, for displaying the display character string defined in the character string file 1 on the screen 5 by the processing program 4, concerning the character string file 1, the title character string of words or sentence expressing contents meant by the display character string is assigned corresponding to the display character string, the display character string in the character string file 1 is retrieved with the title character string by the processing program 4, and the display character string corresponding to this retrieved title character string is displayed on the screen 5.
