The invention relates to a method for altering the shift characteristics of an automated shifting gearbox, by means of access to the shift parameters affecting said shift characteristics, on the basis of a determination of the driving parameters affecting the current driving situation and a selected or determined switching programme, parameterised by means of an index number. Said switching parameters may be changed, depending upon the driving parameters. Said driving parameters and maximum and minimum values for the switching parameters, as a function of said driving parameter, are determined, dependent upon the index number. The switching process occurs with those switching parameters, which are calculated as intermediate values between the minimum and maximum values, depending upon the current index number.
