PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reduction processing unit that reduces an image, in response to a prescribed reduction rate and subjects a line image and a gradation image to reduction processing, without deteriorating the image quality. SOLUTION: The image-reduction processing unit is provided with a block division means 12, that divides an image into blocks with a size, in response to a reduction rate and discriminates whether the image in each block coincides with any pattern to obtain block data BD; a line element discriminating means 30 that discriminates whether the block data BD of a target block coincides with a pattern denoting a line image; a line element processing means 40 that applies reduction binary processing to a block denoting a line image, so as to maintain the likeness of the line image of the original image, such as preservation of the line width and the line length of the original image; and a nonlinear element processing means 50 that applies reduction binary processing to a block denoting a nonlinear image, so as to maintain the likeness to the original nonlinear image, such as a gradation part of the original image. |
