PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly obtain a well-focused and clear iris-color image in a prescribed size. SOLUTION: The integral value of a high frequency component in an image picked up with a CCD 35 is obtained by an AFDSP 40. When a control means 50 moves a focus lens 23 so as to have the integral value of the high frequency component outputted by the AFDSP 40 maximum (position aligned with a focus), it moves a zoom lens 25 simultaneously. The moving position of the zoom lens is determined according to a predetermined tracking table 54. The position of the zoom lens at which the iris-color image has always the prescribed size corresponding to the focus position of the focus lens is set in the tracking table 54.
