PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit, that can suppress abrupt appearance of a black pixel in an image area consisting of almost white pixels because of the property of an error spread method, used to reduce notch noise where errors have accumulated. SOLUTION: An image read means 61 reads multi-gradation image data. A conversion means 62 uses the error spread method for converting the multi- gradation image data into binary image data. A memory 63 stores the multi- gradation image data and the binary image data. A ranking means refers to the density information of the multi-gradation image data, in order to set rank for each pixel. A re-allocation means compares the ranked pixel with the pixel of the binary image and reallocates the pixels of the binary image to generate a new binary image.
