PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform optimum head control by clearing timing for servo data reading after head switching so that the generation of data reading timing at seek time does not affect subsequent servo data reading and then stopping the timing generation carried out at intervals until the servo data intervals are correctly obtained. SOLUTION: It is decided whether or not a head is switched during its seeking; when the head is switched, the use of intervals of servo data right before the head switching are stopped and a servo gate is immediately placed in a high-level state. At the same time, AGC is placed in a hold state and a timer is cleared to reset the improper count value which has been counted so far, thereby putting the timer back into the normal state.
