PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare gas fluorescent lamp with big proportion of effective luminous area, of which an excessive frit glass does not protrude from discharging container, and to provide a manufacturing method of the same. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the rare gas fluorescent lamp includes a process of housing an obstruction member and a frit glass of before fusion at an open end of a glass tube held vertically by a holding member, and a process of sealing by heating, which are characterized by the fact that a supporting member does not disturb the excessive fused frit glass to hang down and protrude. It is preferable to house the supporting member in the glass tube, and to have a supporting surface on which a groove receiving the excessive frit glass is formed. Further, the glass tube is characterized by being sealed with the obstruction member, whole part of which is housed in the glass tube, and the frit glass. The obstruction member is disc-shaped and an outer end surface of which almost conforms to the outer end surface of the glass tube.
