The epitylon derivatives have the general formula wherein R4 means hydrogen, C1-10 alkyl, aryl, C7-20 aralkyl, R5 means hydrogen, C1-10 alkyl, aryl, C7-20 aralkyl, each R6, R7 meaning hydrogen atom, and together mean extra bond or oxygen atom; R8 means methyl group or a hydrogen atom; R1a and R1b together mean trimethylene group, X means 2-pyridyl, 2-methyl-4-thiazolyl or 2-methyl-4-oxazolyl, or R1a and R1b together mean trimethylene group, R2 means methyl, ethyl, or propyl, and X means 2-pyridyl, 2-methyl-4-thiazolyl or 2-methyl-4-oxazolyl, or each of R1a and R1b means methyl, R2 means methyl, ethyl, or. propyl, and X means 2-pyridyl, 2-methyl-4-thiazolyl or 2-methyl-4-oxazolyl, wherein the nitrogen and/or the sulphur atom in X can be present in oxidized form, and if each of R2 and R8 means methyl, X may be only 2-pyridyl, which optionally is oxidized at the nitrogen atom.
